Moroccanoil – Brand & Product Review

moroccanoil

The Moroccanoil brand itself is more commonly associated with beauty products made for ladies, but some of their products are more appealing to men. This brand well known for its Argan Oil (or in this case Moroccan Oil) being extremely rich in tocopherols (Vitamin E), essential fatty acids and antioxidants, that helps to moisturise and soften your hair.

Moroccanoil Texture Clay

To start off let’s comment on the Moroccanoil Texture Clay packaging. It’s a nice plastic jar, with their signature ocean green/blue branding. 75g it is a smaller dose than some of the other brands on the market. On the label, it is mentioned that this product is suitable for all hair types.

When I first opened the jar I was actually offended by the fragrance. It did not match any of the expectations set by the strong branding and the quality of the packaging.

Product breaks down well for an easy application, somewhat similar, if not creamier than say a Hanz De Fuko Claymation or Hairbond Distorter Professional Hair Clay.

Personally I would always put a product like this into pre-styled dry hair. Despite it being a matte product, it isn’t as natural looking as competitor clays. There is a shine to the finish. The shine does however diminish as the day goes on.

This is not a strong hold product either. More something to texturise and probably would be better suited to a finer hair type.

Cost for the Moroccanoil Texture Clay is somewhere in the region of £17 for a 75 gram pot.

Moroccanoil Treatment Original

If adding more shine with oil is what you’re looking for, the Moroccanoil Treatment Original is a multi-tasking hair product that nourishes, conditions and styles your hair.

This is what Moroccanoil have built their brand on, with women in mind. Made for achieving smooth, sleek hair, this is a daily routine product and can also be used by men.

This hair taming oil contains what they describe as a luxury argan oil, with added vitamins to enhance shine, as well as “essential” proteins to help improve your hair’s strength.

To try this leave in hair product add a small amount to towel-dried hair and begin to detangle with a brush or a comb to evenly distribute. This product will naturally add quite a lot of shine so wouldn’t recommend this as a pre-styler if you’re going to add a matte finish product afterwards.

If you want to avoid putting oil in your hair but want the results as described, I would sway more towards using the Hairbond Wonder Professional Hair Primer or It’s A 10 Miracle leave in 120ml. These products offer the same benefits (if not more) as Moroccanoil Treatment Original and don’t contain any oil.

Cost for the Moroccanoil Treatment Original is somewhere in the region of £32 for a 100ml bottle.

Verdict

Sadly the Moroccanoil brand didn’t make our TOP 10 HAIRSTYLING BRANDS FOR MEN list, but I do understand how this brand adds more value to the ladies hair market even though I believe products from other brands in the same category are more effective cost and results wise.
