American Crew Fiber VS Hairbond United Kingdom Distorter Professional Hair Clay, what’s not to love!
Good afternoon people, together we are going to check out two of the market’s best selling matte hair styling products made by two of the most renowned world hair care companies.
As usual, we will compare testing results from both the brands taking a fair and close look in order to decide what’s a better matte hair styling product, the UK’s Hairbond United Kingdom Distorter Professional Hair Clay or the US’s American Crew Fiber.
Over the years, Hairbond United Kingdom has launched thousands of celebrity endorsements, from entertainment and sports stars alike, I mean one minute it’s all over Hollywood and the next, half the England football team are sending pictures out of them proudly clasping.
With the rise in male grooming and the growth of social media including YouTube, I remember Hairbond as one of the most talked-about hair care brands online. How to’s, hairstyling tutorials, I spent many days continuously watching some of the most amazing hairstyling videos using Hairbond’s products.
In comparison to American Crew, Hairbond are a smaller and more exclusive label putting their stamp of quality on the best of world hair styling.
For American Crew they began earlier, sometime early 1990s in the US. American Crew was one of the first brands to break out into mass hairstyling production with a range of men’s hairstyling products.
Product technology was a lot more basic than it is today but as a giant corporation, American Crew has dominated supermarkets, high street retail and the professional barber and hair salon markets. Today American Crew is so accessible, it is cost effective, but is it better than the competition?
Hairbond Distorter, are you a contendor? We want to know.
American Crew Fiber VS Hairbond United Kingdom Distorter – Distorter Professional Hair Clay
I’m not sure if I’ve said this before, but I find it hard to believe the Hairbond packaging will ever be beaten in a brand battle. The jar has a feel of eliteness. It looks glass but it’s actually made out of plastic. No matter which size or flavour you go for the packaging is consistently exceptional. Looks great in the bathroom. 5/5
Probably the smoothest application I’ve ever had for a hair clay. This stuff melts like butter as soon as you rub your hands together but your hands form just the right amount of grip needed to distribute evenly into the hair. 5/5
Very natural matte finish, which really brings out texture if you have a textured hair cut. Leaves you looking like you just left the hair salon. 5/5
It is labelled as 3 notches out of 5 for hold, so this isn’t for those guys looking for super strength. Does just what it says on the tin 5/5
5/5 full house!
“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.“
What They Say

American Crew Fiber VS Hairbond United Kingdom Distorter – Fiber
Whilst the American Crew Fiber, brown and blue colour scheme works, I can only give the packaging score a 2/5.
It’s nothing special and nothing better than standard when it comes to hair styling products. The size is 85g.
Also, the spelling of the word “Fiber” stands out, the British tend to spell it “Fibre”.
Styles well but with some resistance and grip that can be used to add volume to the hair. 3/5
Not a bad matte look. If you overdo it you can end up with a greasy effect as associated with cheaper products. 3/5
Soft which i like but waxy in consistency; but easily worked through the hair. 3/5
What They Say
“Fiber-like, resinous product helps thicken, texturize and increase fullness to hair. Provides a strong, pliable hold with a matte finish. Works well in shorter hair, 1-3 inches in length. For high hold with low shine.”
American Crew Fiber VS Hairbond United Kingdom Distorter WINNER
However a warning for some, Hairbond products are known for their quality, so there is obviously a price difference which will be important for some of you.
Whilst the American Crew Fiber is cheaper and more accessible you might find the Hairbond 100ml costing you more.
But like anything in life, you get what you pay for. 100ml of this product will last you a forever. A little really goes a long way.
But if you do go big with Hairbond, you get more “bang for your buck!”
I hope you enjoyed this brand battle. Well done Distorter!
