Good day hair product enthusiasts! Welcome guys. Today I wanted to put down one of this biggest brand battles yet, as we put two of the most loved hair styling brands head to head for a product comparison match! Yes we have lined up the TIGI bed head Matte Separation VS Hairbond Moulder. Who will be victorious?
If you’ve recently been in the hairdressers or even the supermarket you will have seen the TIGI brand before. Usually mega eye-catching, these products were oringinally founded by award-winning hairdresser, Anthony Mascolo.
Since manufacturing millions of hairdressing products for hairdressers around the world, Anthony then started designing products for men mass market. This is where Bed Head For Men range came from. Within the Bed Head For Men collection, there are a number of male grooming products of which Matte Separation is one of the better selling. This corporate brand has dominated the bottom end of the market for a number of years now. With thousands of sellers at their fingertips, the whole Bed Head brand was designed to be a low cost, high volume mass market business.
“WHEN WE COULDN’T FIND THE PRODUCTS WE WANTED,
WE MADE THEM OURSELVES.”
“TIGI founder, award-winning, iconic hairdresser, Anthony Mascolo has created a unique culture: a family-orientated hub of creatives who share his ethos of pushing the boundaries and technical know-how to benefit themselves and other professional hairdressers. It’s about sharing everything through TIGI education, exciting the audience through shows and artistic imagery. TIGI understand and interpret fashion to create hairstyles hairdressers will want to recreate and their clients will love to wear, using TIGI products to enhance the cut, colour, style and finish.”
Hairbond United Kingdom
Like TIGI, Hairbond United Kingdom was also originally founded by professional hairdresser and barber Scott Michaels.
Unlike TIGI, Scott’s focus was to provide the best quality hair styling products Britain could manufacture, whatever the cost. Since then Hairbond products have been carefully crafted to be loved by the masses and the male grooming industry has evolved with more consumers realising best price isn’t everything if there’s a quality you don’t mind paying for.
12 years of worldwide distribution ran by a small family business, Hairbond United Kingdom has gone from strength to strength with literally thousands of celebrity endorsements. Due to the amount of Premier League and International footballers who now use and support it, Hairbond United Kingdom have become known as the “Premier League Of Hair Styling”.
“Launched in 2008, Hairbond is an authentic British hair brand that produces professional hair products. The brand products are all as a result of progression, innovation, and expression. What Hairbond offers, no other hair brand can claim. It uses the best ingredients to formulate professional products that achieve creativity and style. The philosophy of Hairbond is as true today as the day it was founded. The Hairbond range has intended to deliver its promise of quality by maintaining the highest possible standards, using top of the range product formulations and ingredients to create an authentic British solution for the ultimate hairstyling results.”
OK now we’re ready to get stuck into the drilling, each category will be marked out of 5, first up is the Hairbond Moulder Professional Hair Shaper!
Hairbond United Kingdom Moulder Professional Hair Shaper
Blown away by the packaging from Hairbond. They look glass but are in fact made out of plastic. They just look so good. The stuff inside has to be good if they’ve gone to these lengths to package it. 5/5
I found this super easy to apply. Works great in both the roots for volume as well as when you completely cover the strands. 4/5
Super natural! Usually with waxes you can get a greasy look if you over do the styling. With this you can keep putting more in and it just seems to vanish yet you get the expected extra hold. Fantastic! 5/5
As a matte wax, I expected this stuff to be thick and gunky. But instead, I was pleasantly surprised. It’s in fact more like a harder cream to begin with. You just scoop the smallest amount and rub palms together whilst generating some hand heat and it disappears right in front of your eyes. 4/5
Great hold. It says 4/5 on their hold scale. I found this worked out about right for me. Not too strong making the hair look unnatural, but you get the benefits of it lasting all day. 4/5
4.5/5. Near perfect.
“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.”

Let’s see how that compares to the TIGI Matte Separation!
TIGI bed head Matte Separation
The market has to start somewhere. I’m not saying it’s the worst packaging but it’s possibly the cheapest. TIP: don’t sit on or accidetaly bend the lid as it probably wont screw back on. 1/5
As it’s called Matte Seperator I had high hopes for this product. Whilst it separates texture in your hair it does it rather stickily and I wouldn’t say it was a matte finish. 2/5
Sticky. A bit crunchy in a was wet kind of way. Would avoid if have thin hair. 2/5
Dreaming of a matte wax, I expected this stuff to be thick and easy to break down. But instead, it’s a lot wetter than anticipated, more like a putty. Whilst you spread it through your hands it just becomes tackier. 2/5
Due to the fact the stickiness levels are so high this stuff actually holds. Despite the finish and the texture I have to award the hold. 3/5
What They Say
“Style hair with texture and definition with the Bed Head for Men Matte Separation Hair Wax. This strong hold hair wax adds hold, texture, separation and definition to styled hair. The hair wax has a natural matte finish and resists humidity for long-lasting hair styling. The Matte Separation Hair Wax is the most popular Bed Head for Men product globally.
Ideal for styling short to medium hair. Apply the hair wax to towel-dried or dry hair, then style and create extra detail with fingers. Top tip: the drier your hair, the more matte the finish and the wetter the hair, the softer the results.
Formulated with Beeswax for hair amazing texture and hold, Cera Carnauba, a medium-weight wax that gives a long-lasting workable hold and Glycerine that moisturises, conditions and nourishes the hair.
The hair wax is 85 g and comes with Fresh Green Aromatic fragrance.
Apply to damp or dry hair for texture and hold”
TIGI bed head Matte Separation VS Hairbond Moulder WINNER
TIGI bed head Matte Separation VS Hairbond Moulder, who guessed it right? So the Hairbond Moulder Professional Hair Shaper wins this battle for best matte hair product destroying the TIGI Matte Separator.
We can’t say I didn’t see it coming as you can’t compare an old Ford Fiesta to a Rolls Royce, but I was really disappointed in some of the lack of quality in the TIGI product.
It’s fair to say whilst Hairbond products sit at the other end of the market, its a brand which only appeals to those who really value the professional differences.
I hope you enjoyed this Friday Night Fight in our latest brand battle.
Join us soon for another battle of the hair brands.
